Badge Testing
North Toronto Skating Club does badge testing once a month (approximately).
The professional coach who has been teaching the group does the testing.
If a skater is progressing more quickly than the rest of the group, the coach will inform the
family and/or the office that the skater should move to a group with a more compatible skill
level
-or-
the skater may work ahead within the group and receive two badges on the test days.
If the whole group gets a badge, the group will stay together and work on the next stage with
the same coach.
If only a few skaters receive a badge they will move to a new group.
The CanSkate Program starts with the Beginner Badge and progresses from Beginner Badge to Stage 1 through to Stage 7. There are several elements to be completed in each Stage.
If on Badge Day the skater hasn't completed all the elements for the Stage they may still earn an incentive badge called forward,
backward, stop, turn, spin and/or jump.
Check the club Bulletin Board for the weekly posting of the group summary. To ensure that you receive an e-mail notification of change
of group, please inform the skating club office on the skater application form of your e-mail address.
There are ribbons, colouring sheets and other badges for skaters who aren't ready to advance
- no one gets left out.
