The North Toronto Skating Club offers children the chance to learn to skate proficiently,
using Skate Canada's CanSkate program. This is a stepped approach to learning how to skate.
Children can begin as young as 3˝ years old. They progress through different skill levels, earning
badges of achievement as they go. To join our CanSkate program, please click on our 2009-2010
Registration forms (All 3 parts MUST be included with your registration - Application, Medical Form, Volunteer Form), print them off and either mail them or drop them off at the North

ANNUAL SHOWCASE
A Showcase is held every year at the end of the skating season in April and is an essential element in a skater’s overall
development. It is a fun, club experience that builds confidence, and enhances the enjoyment of skating as skaters work together,
combining figure skating moves and physical expression, as they perform to music.
We encourage skaters of all levels to participate in the Showcase, as it is an excellent opportunity for them to use and
demonstrate the skills they have learned in front of a supportive audience of family and friends.
Showcase rehearsals are an important part of North Toronto’s skating programme and take place, in the last few weeks leading up
to the Showcase.
The group number rehearsal times generally follow regular session times, but may vary a little, with the exception of Showcase
week which includes a Continuity and/or Dress rehearsal/Photo Day.
As Showcase is the capstone event of the skating season it requires a great deal of organization, coordination and effort to hold.
Although organized by a committee, Showcase requires the active participation of numerous member parents to continue. Please refer
to the Volunteer Commitment form to indicate your contribution.

The CanSkate Program is taught to:
Skaters ages 3˝ to 5 years - this is a fully supervised ˝ hour of group lesson. There are 8 skaters to 1 professional coach and 1 program assistant.
Skaters aged 6 and up - skaters are on the ice for an hour as follows: - a 15 minute practice time, a 15 minute warm-up led by a professional coach, and a half hour small group skill
development. A 5 year old skater may apply for the hour CanSkate session ONLY if he/she has earned the Beginner Badge.
|
On the CanSkate sessions, badge testing will be done approximately once a month.
If a skater changes groups as a result of badge testing, they'll be notified by e-mail during
the week following badge testing. The group lesson sheets are also posted each week on the bulletin
board on the south wall, east of the entry doors to the ice.
Another important facet of the NTSC program is the ability to provide testing opportunities for
children working towards higher levels of proficiency. Tests determine at what level a skater will
compete, and will qualify a skater to progress to a higher session. Decisions with regard to tests
will be discussed between students and their private coaches.
They provide clear incentives to students working hard to develop themselves as figure skaters.
Skate Canada sanctioned tests are offered for Pre-StarSkate/Preliminary, Intermediate, Senior and Advanced Level
skaters
