Private Lessons
In order to arrange private lessons, you must be a member of the skating club.
The skater who chooses to do private lessons only must join the session for which the skater is qualified,
for example, a 3 ½ - 5 year old CanSkaters may join a 30 minute session on:
- Monday at 2:10 or 2:40 p.m.
- Wednesday at 10:10 or 10:40 a.m.
- Wednesday at 4:00 or 4:30 p.m.
- Thursday at 4:00 or 4:30 p.m.
6 year old and up CanSkater may join the 60 minute session on:
- Wednesday from 4:00-5:00 p.m.
- Thursday from 4:00-5:00 p.m.
After paying the member ship fees, private lessons are arranged by the family directly with a North Toronto Skating Club coach. (Please see our
Coaches
web page for contact info for our excellent coaching staff!).
Private coaching can begin at any age and is a family decision.
It is highly recommended that Pre-StarSkate skaters have private lessons.
All sessions from Preliminary and higher must have private lessons with a North Toronto Skating Club professional coach.
If a skater participating in our group lesson program arranges a private lesson with a coach who does not have time
on the session where you are registered, you’re welcome to join a 2nd session, for which you’re qualified, for a
small additional fee for the extra ice time.
If a skater on a session higher than CanSkate requires extra ice time for a private lesson, you must seek permission
in writing by e-mail to info@northtorontoskatingclub.com,
from the Board of Directors.
The club assumes no responsibility for private lesson arrangements made between
Professional Coaches and Club Members, nor for any charges thereby incurred.
At the beginning of the season, you should discuss with your coach:
- Lessons
- type (freeskate, skills, dance, and interpretive)
- how many lessons would you like per week
- which type of lesson would be on each day
- Fees
- for lessons (private, semi-private, group [of other private students])
- for music for freeskate solo - a) original b) duplicate
- for partnering of dance tests (done by coach or another)
- for competition and test days
- Private Ice
- Some coaches often take a group of their skaters out for extra practice prior
to tests or competitions.
It is your resonsibilty to inform your coach if you will not be able to attend
a lesson (otherwise you may find that you have been charged for the missed
lessons). If the coach cannot be present, they will normally send a replacement.
If it is a sudden absence, the coach will try to inform the office, who
will then post a notice by the entry doors to the ice.
Should you decide to make a change of Professional Coach, it is your responsibility
to notify the former coach of your intention to change. You must make payment
in full of any outstanding accounts owed to the original coach at the time
the arrangement is terminated.
Your coach will be holding lesson times for you at the beginning of the year.
Please let them know early in the summer what your intentions are so that
they may make plans. If it is getting late, and the coach does not know
what your intentions are for the year, you may lose your spot as they have
many requests made for their time.
